We were blessed to have Nate Bull preach at Grace two weeks ago ("Pattern To Influence", November 12). For those of you that missed it, the sermon can be found HERE. Below is a ministry update from Nate and Mark's church in Detroit, Hesed Community Church. You can donate directly to Hesed via the links below, or we will provide specific opportunities to support Hesed and their community this December.
Hesed Community Church is a ministry of the Urban Apostolic Network under the guidance of the RCA and CRC led by Nate Bull and Mark VanAndel.
We continue to teach our discipleship group about living a life of obedience and submission to God. In our western Christian culture, we have often over-simplified the Gospel message to simply having our sins forgiven (which is incredibly significant). But Jesus preached about the coming of the Kingdom of God, which encompasses much more than just being forgiven. The Kingdom of God entails living according to the way of the King. God's grace gives us unmerited favor that enables us to be who he created us to be and do what he created us to do. Living a life of obedience to God brings joy, peace, fulfillment, and ultimately signals the Kingdom of God's presence in our neighborhoods. We are seeing evidence of God's reign in Brightmoor and across Detroit.
On the last Sunday of each month we gather for a worship service with people from our ministry in Brightmoor and other neighborhood focused Christian communities. This allows us to celebrate how the Kingdom is coming across the entire city of Detroit. In October, we had the privilege of having two baptisms during this gathering. What a joy to celebrate new life in Christ and see young people submit to God's will for their lives!
Upcoming Events: Bible Study and Lunch: Thursdays at 12 pm
Discipleship Class: Fridays at 10 am
Worship Services: Last Sunday of every month at 3 pm
What would it look like in your community for God's Kingdom to be more fully evidenced? We’ve had a number of visitors to Bible Study and Discipleship Class over the past two months. People from Grace Ann Arbor, First CRC of Detroit, and North Hills CRC have all brought a meal and shared in Bible Study.
A group coordinated by Justus Heers of Grace Canton built a dozen raised garden beds across the street from the ministry house that will serve as a community garden next spring. Thank you all for your presence with us and the ways you've invested in our Christian community. We love to interact with new and old friends, so feel free to set up a visit to see the Kingdom of God in Brightmoor.
Our Discipleship Group decided that they wanted to provide a Thanksgiving day meal for our neighbors who don’t have anywhere else that they plan to go on Thanksgiving Day. We offer food and fellowship twice a week, but this will be a special day to be a hospitable community of “family” for some of our friends. If you’d like to contribute financially for this meal, please contact us.
